Slavery Studies Reading Group
Friday, March 15, 2024 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM EDT
Virtual on Zoom
This reading group discusses recent books and articles involving slavery from different disciplinary and geographical perspectives. For each meeting, participants can either complete a monograph or a shorter reading (either a chapter or article) in case reading the book is unrealistic. Participants are always welcome to attend and discuss even if they have not completed any of these readings.
In this session we will be discussing the Dismal Swamp. Please read In Freewater, by Amina Luqman-Dawson (a Middle Grade novel); Golden, “‘Armed in the Great Swamp’”(academic article); and Dred, Stowe (excerpts).
If you wish to be added to our email list, please send an email to me, Jane Hooper (jhooper3@gmu.edu).
