Music and Society Reading Group
Past Event
Friday, February 2, 2024 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM EST
Virtual on Zoom
Please join us to discuss provocative works on music from a broad range of disciplinary perspectives. Avoiding technical, formal analysis, we nevertheless seek to examine the ways musical elements produce meaning and inform identities and movements. We are interested in approaches that engage popular music from around the world to illuminate broader social and political questions.
In this session we will discuss Mary Caton Lingold, African Musicians in the Atlantic World: Legacies of Sound and Slavery (2023).
We will meet via Zoom! Please reach out to either the coordinator, Matt Karush (mkarush@gmu.edu), or chr@gmu.edu for the link.
