Call for Applications: Research Awards for George Mason Doctoral Students in the Humanities Summer 2026
The CHR invites applications for summer research funding from Mason doctoral students pursuing humanistic research or scholarship who do not have summer 2026 research funding from the Provost’s Office or Graduate Division.
We anticipate making awards of $3,000-$4,000 each, depending on available funds.
Application should include the following:
-A project title;
-A 250-word proposal that describes your dissertation, including what specifically you plan to do over the summer;
-Your home department and your dissertation committee members;
A CV;
-And a simple budget (can include things like travel OR basic living expenses).
Please email your application as a single PDF document labeled with your last name leading (ex. Smith CHR summer doctoral award) to chr@gmu.edu by Monday, May 11, 2026.
You will be notified of your status by late May 2026.
Eligibility requirements (please review carefully):
1. Applicants must be George Mason doctoral students listed in university records as full-time during spring 2026 and must plan to return as graduate students in fall 2026.
2. Applicants must have advanced to candidacy by time of application.
3. Applicants cannot receive funding from the Provost’s Office/Graduate Division in summer 2026 AND the CHR award in summer 2026.
4. You must disclose whether or not you are registered for summer 2026 (this simply impacts how the awards are made, not your chances of being funded).
