Mason’s Center for Humanities Research has named its first cohort of spring residential fellows. They are:
Nathaniel Greenberg, Modern and Classical Languages, "Salvaged Archives: The Social Photography of Kamil al-Chadirji and the Image of Revolt in Iraq (1920-1958)"
Niklas Hultin, Global Affairs, "Human Rights and Autocracy: The Gambia under Yahya Jammeh, 1994-2017"
Sam Lebovic, History and Art History, "The History of the Espionage Act"
Jessica Scarlata, Cultural Studies, "Geographies of Irish Visual Culture"
The graduate fellows both represent the Cultural Studies program. Ashley Gaddy's project is "Reproducing Through 2020: Reproductive Liberation Strategies of Black Women Welfare Recipients in Washington, DC during Floyd, Trump and Covid-19," and Annie Hui's project is "Visual Resistance and Political Be/longing: The Politics of Mass Cultural Symbols in Sites of Protest.”
Each of the fellows have proposed projects deeply engaged with notions of Dissent, the annual theme selected by the center for 2020. More information about their research – and applications for the fall cohort of CHR fellows – will be coming in the spring. Congratulations to all!
